It’s no secret that Italian cities really are in a tier of their own, and each has a beautifully unique personality. When presented with so much choice, deciding where to visit can be challenging; to make your life easier, we have compiled a list of our favourite Italian cities!

Rome
A city that needs no introduction and makes a great entry point to the world of Italian cities! Roman history spans nearly 3000 years, making Rome one of the oldest inhabited cities in Europe. Consequently, Rome is jam-packed with magnificent Piazzas, museums and breathtaking historical monuments, like, for example, the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Vatican City.
Florence
Florence is undoubtedly one of the prettiest cities in the world. Apart from being breathtakingly beautiful, the city is also home to some of the world’s most renowned art galleries and museums. Fancy a break from the city? Fear not; there are endless beautiful traditional Tuscan villages beyond the gates of the main town. For example, San Gimignano, Lucca & Cortona to name a few.
Venice
Venice is a true unicorn city, unlike anywhere else on Earth. The beautiful waterways and canals that make up the city are overflowing with charming palaces and churches. Venice is an enchanting city and a perfect honeymoon destination with endless romantic activities, including watching the Opera Show at Teatro La Fenice, exploring the Bohemian Neighbourhood of Dorsoduro or simply exploring the city by Gondola. The Grand Canal and Piazza San Marco are also must-sees!
Naples
Naples is a vibrant city located to south of the capital, Rome. Unbeknownst to most, Naples is the birthplace of modern-day pizza; if that doesn’t convince you Naples is a sublime holiday destination, then nothing will! Beyond the obvious culinary delights, Naples makes an excellent base for excursions to other popular attractions such as Pompei and the Amalfi coast.
Milan
Milan is a more lively destination than most others on this list, famous for Michelin star restaurants and fashion shows. Despite this, the city still has plenty of cultural heritage and spectacular art-deco architecture; in particular, the Gothic Duomo and Da Vinci’s “The Last Supper” are must-sees.
Bologna
Italians know Bologna to be the culinary capital of Italy, which speaks volumes about the quality of eating establishments that crowd the streets. Exploring the city’s beautiful architecture and visiting local bars is an absolute must when you aren’t indulging in the local delights!
Pisa
There is much more to this city than the famous leaning tower, though we would certainly recommend visiting the renowned centrepiece! Pisa’s rich history has resulted in a great mix of architecture from different historical eras that are best enjoyed at your own leisurely pace! Also note, the city is found in Tuscany and makes a glorious day trip from Florence.
Turin
Turin sits on the border of the Alps Mountain range and is the capital city of the Northwestern Piedmont region. Considered by many to be one of the countries cultural hubs, Turin has heaps of great activities for everyone, including live music, famous coffee houses, spectacular museums, and breathtaking palaces, to name a few. Lastly, no trip to Turin would be complete without touring the beautiful Duomo di Torino!
Verona
The city of GenoVerona is famously home to William Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet and for the annual opera festival. Verona is home to magnificent Piazzas, castles, medieval buildings, ancient libraries and Roman ruins, including the popular Roman amphitheatre in Piazza Bra. Verona’s charming cobblestone alleyways that connect the many historical monuments make Verona the perfect city to explore on foot!
Genoa
The city of Genoa pays homage to its history as a medieval port and continues to be the largest port in Italy, with frequent cruise ship stopovers. Beyond the port, the city is home to one of the most extensive medieval quarters in Europe, grand old buildings, and the largest, most biodiverse aquarium in Italy!
